500 Words a Day Day 7- A Letter to My 14 Year Old Self

Ah 14-year-old Brittney…..

You’re so young now. Young and naive and very very stupid. You may think your life is all figured out. At this point, you’re in the beginning of your freshman year. You’ve got the friends, the boyfriend, the family. You’re not popular by any means, but you’re not a loser either. This year is going to start out get for you.

Until it’s not anymore. Soon, your friends are going to desert you. Your boyfriend is going to dump you. You’re going to be alone and a complete outcast. Things are going to seem like they’re never going to get better. You may think your life is over now, but I promise you it’s only just beginning.

One day, you’re going meet the most special group of people and you better believe that they will change your life.

You’ll have Amber already. Loving, honest, loyal Amber. No matter what happens, no matter how hard things may get between the two of you over the next 10 1/2 years, you will never really lose each other. She will always be one of the most important in your life. You’ll fight, yes and for a while you won’t talk to each other. Sometimes other people will get in the way of your friendship. But then you’ll both grow up a bit and realize that your friendship is one that you never want to lose.

You’ll meet Autumn. You already kind of know her. Well really you know of her. You’ll be able to tell pretty quickly that she doesn’t really like you at first, and it’s going to bother you. You shouldn’t let it though because you guys will end up being inseparable for years.

You’re going to think CJ is really weird at first. And let’s be honest here, he still is. You guys are going to be pretty good friends for a while until he goes off to college. But don’t worry, because as time passes, he will end up being one of your best friends in the entire world.

Tyler will always be around. And you two are going to go through a lot. You’ll date him, and you’ll think you love him. And he’ll hurt you, I’m not even going to lie to you. But nothing will ever truly tear apart your friendship. There will be times when you’ll need him and he will be there to the best of his abilities. And there will be times where he will need you. Make sure you’re always there for him. He’s gonna go through a lot.

Definitely can’t forget about Simon. You and Simon…. You’re going to fight sometimes. You’re going to love him all the time, always, just like a brother. But sometimes he’s going to hurt your feelings and sometimes you’re going to get really really mad at him. Just always remember that he means well.

Before all of this (but not before Amber!) You’re going to meet Anam. Your friendship with her will be tricky at times. Don’t get me wrong, you will always love her. But things are going to happen around you that will definitely test your friendship. But don’t worry, ok. Because she’s always going to be one of the most important people to you.

Finally, and pay attention now because this one is the most important, you’re going to meet Ryan. You’ll date him for a few weeks this year, and then again Junior year. He’s going to be your best friend and he’s going to know you better than you even know yourself. He’ll be your therapist, your shoulder to cry on. And then, when he goes off to college, he’ll be gone. It’s going to hurt really bad and you’re not going to understand why. But seriously, don’t sweat it. One day, you’re going to need him more than ever and he’s going to be right there. And then a few months later, it’s going to hit you that he’s the one. After that, your life will never be the same again 🙂

I know it seems like a lot to take in. And I know you’re going to look at all these people and think “I really hope they’ll all be around by the end of high school.” Rest assured, they will be. You may not see this right now, but you’re incredibly to have all of these people in your life.

Don’t ever take them for granted.
