There are so many things I would love to say about the Supreme Court ruling today. But to put it simply, it’s about time. I don’t care what religion you are, how much money you make, what job you have or where you live, everyone has the right to love who they love.
I am not personally affected by this decision. I am a straight, white female married to a straight white male. However, as a compassionate, LGBT supporting, lover of all people, I feel like this decision personally affects me. My husbands uncles now have the well deserved right to legalize their union. And that makes me so happy and proud. They were among the first in Franklin County to obtain their Marriage License mere hours after the ruling was handed down.
I’m incredibly proud to be an American today and I love knowing that in February my husband and I will welcome our first child into a world where it is ok for two men or two women to marry each other.
Look back on our American History and think off all of the obstacles we have overcome and all of the hatred we have conquered. We live in a world where all people are equal. It doesn’t matter if you are gay, straight, trans, male, female, white, black, yellow, brown, it doesn’t matter. Every person on this earth is unique and that should be celebrated, now and forever.
